Learning should be fun, but what do you do when it's not?

Updated: Aug 22, 2020

Learning doesn’t feel like fun all the time. In fact, sometimes it feels downright uncomfortable.

We’ve all had that feeling when uncertainty crowds our mind, and we find ourselves asking: “How am I going to do this? How am I progressing?”

That’s not a great feeling.

But if we run with the strategy that I’ll only do ‘learning’ if it feels good, we’ll limit ourselves.

So what’s the answer?

Well, we have two ways to go.

1. We can link tremendous pleasure to learning and for going into the unknown.

2. Or we could just get on with doing the things that don’t strike us as being fun until we’re

really good at them and they then become fun.

Or we could do both.

Here’s some go-to sentences to say to yourself when learning anxiety is crowding your brain:

“I welcome my mistakes."

“I run strategies that are geared for success.”

“I will honour my promise to myself to achieve that outcome.”

Give it a try next time learning becomes hard, uncomfortable or boring.

It’s amazing the difference what you say to yourself can have.
